Last Work Day!

We woke up at 6:15 am, participated in worship shortly after, and are now waiting in line to get breakfast. We were a little slow moving this morning, but they have worked hard so it is expected. I slipped upstairs to post more pictures. Have a good day!

Second Work Day!!

It is late and I still have to shower, so there will not be a lot of writing. The pictures will tell it all. We are very proud of them. They have worked very hard. One group finished their worksite and are moving on to help another one tomorrow. The pool was a huge hit and we even had whataburgers for dinner tonight. The kids truly worshiped undignified tonight and they had a great time dancing/singing to the Happy Song. Our group is in charge of leading worship tomorrow night at the client dinner. They are pumped and spent time preparing with Jenni and Sarah for it. Pray for strength and energy so they will be able to complete their worksites tomorrow. We have an awesome group of 6th graders on this trip and they are really bonding. We are also blessed to have such wonderful adults with us. There was no duct taping today, but the duct tape baseball travels with this group. Goodnight!

Sorry if your child wasn't in these pictures. We were running yesterday and didn't have much time for pictures. I promise there will be more this evening (hopefully!)

JUMMP First Day of Work!

Sorry it took so long to post, but we have been busy around here at JUMMP. We had an awesome first day on the worksite, but it was a slow start. It took awhile for some of the materials to get delivered to the sites. The kids had a good time playing fun, new games. Jenni and Kandi's site scraped a deck, painted a picnic table, and trimmed trees. They loved using the saw (so if you have any trees that need to be trimmed contact this group)!!!! Bill's group had to wait awhile to get paint. During their waiting time they decided to duct tape James (his choice) to a poll. You can ask Mr. Bill about this later. They also enjoyed playing duct tape baseball and a game called apple core. When the paint arrived, they got hard to work and painted trim. Michele and Chris's team had to wait on some siding, but loved putting up siding when it arrived. They also cleaned windows and gutters. Cathy's team cleaned up the debris by the tool shed, began painting the shed, and are now trying to figure out how to tackle making the grass that is higher than the kids shorter. They really enjoyed the large amoeba tag game! Of course, our kids are professional at this game and lasted a long time without getting tagged. We had another night of worship with an awesome youth speaker. Our group will begin to prepare for the Thursday night worship. Boni is our Kitchen leader and is doing a fabulous job feeding 160 people. They will have a busy day today, but are going to be rewarded by going swimming tonight at Adamson's Lagoon. I am going to post a few pictures, but will post even more tomorrow. Sarah is our pack adult and she was busy running around getting supplies. She is going to take lots of pictures today! If any of this doesn't make sense or there are typos, I apologize because it is very early in the morning.

JUMMP!

The two design team kids made it safely to College Station. We had dinner together and the kids got to play around for awhile. They unloaded a bunch of stuff.. We had a short worship service and then they got to bed early. Tomorrow is a very busy day for the design team. They will be unloading the supplies, putting together the t-shirts and water bottles, getting the rooms together, going to Sams, and whatever else they need to do. Pray for safe travels for the rest of the mission team that will be leaving tomorrow.

The theme for JUMMP is What A Server - Just the way God likes it! Galations 5:13.

Work Day Number Three Evening!

Today was a day for sheetrock. We lived and breathed sheetrock. It got in our eyes and ears, but we loved every minute. The Tiki House is so close to finishing the roof!! And it has been said that it is an amazing looking roof. All the shingles are nicely tucked in their spots, waiting for their nighttime stories.

Note: fruit loops were available for breakfast this morning and they were most definitely a hit.

The kids did so great today. At the Big Kahuna, they were split off into their teams to work. Each group was assigned a room to sheetrock, and there was a lot accomplished! Karen decided to delight every one with encouraging (and loud) songs while we worked today ; shortly after she took a quick nap in the bathtub while it was being sheetrocked. It was impressive. At the Tiki House, they worked hard on the roof, and continued to sheetrock the house. The roofers said that their fingers are pretty raw. Like raw meat. Ew, bad mental picture.

After a laborious day at work, we ate enchiladas and headed for the bowling alley! Gutter balls and seventy-eights are what most of us got, but it was a great adventure. Singing, dancing , and bowling in the name of the Lord can do wondrous things. At the bowling alley, Kevin decided he wanted a Java Monster until the lady informed him he must be 18 to purchase one. For what reason you might ask? No one really knows. I mean, it’s not like it boosts your energy an immense amount or anything. So. Genius and generous Carley decides that she will buy one for Kevin. Long story short, she got carded because for some reason she doesn’t look 18 even though she is, and Kevin received his medicinal liquid drink, and became quite hyper. But that’s not much of a change.

The night ended with beautiful worship, great words from Jenni, and love letters from home.
So as I type this…

The kids are all nestled and tucked in their beds, as visions of sheetrock and nails dance in their heads. (until 6 a.m.)

Goodnight!

Work Day #2 Update

Wow!!!! Wednesday was an awesome day! We are so amazed at the work the youth are doing this week. The kids really worked hard. They felt more comfortable at what they were doing and took initiative on the worksite. The Big Kahuna house (the large house we are working on) got the majority of the sheetrock done and began to tape and float. At the Tiki House (the smaller house) the youth have completed three sides of the roof. They worked extremely hard even in the hot part of the day. There was a competition going on between the two sides. It was friendly competition though. I am happy to report that the side that Tami, Jenny, and Christie were leading beat the side that Worksite Boss Jason was leading. Girls rule!!!!! In the inside of the Tiki house, the sheetrock has almost been completed and they began taping and floating. The 6 high school youth we have are working very hard and being excellent leaders. The younger youth really look up to them. We finished up at the worksite a little early and took the kids to the beach. It was beautiful weather and we had a great time. God blessed us with a rainbow! There was an ultimate wrestling match in the water! Some kids enjoyed more stuffed snow balls at the beach (it is a popular item in Mississippi).
